Zenthai Shiatsu Therapy is a movement-based structural & energetic therapy, addressing musculoskeletal, digestive, energetic & nervous system imbalances.

Zenthai respectfully draws wisdom from the traditional therapies Zen Shiatsu, Thai Massage, Osteopathy & Traditional Chinese Medicine 5 element theory, allowing a well-rounded approach in diagnosing & addressing many areas of dysfunction & disharmony within the body’s physical & energetic fields.

The gentle, healing touch that Zenthai offers, encourages a deep relaxation & release of tension, initiating a parasympathetic nervous system response.  This space of safety, nurturing, depth, connection to ourselves & our vulnerability may also present a unique opportunity to access & release the suppressed emotional trauma holding the injured state to its dysfunction, should the openness & desire to feel emotion be present in the receiver.

Zenthai Shiatsu truly is a gift of welcomed space, depth, rest & healing, very much needed in today’s society of busyness, striving, distraction & ‘too much thinking’.  It is for this reason that it is so effective in calming the nervous system, reducing anxiety & depression & unwinding the layers of pain & dysfunction in the body & spirit.

Cupping

Cupping is an ancient form of complementary healing, using suction to essentially move, or unblock the stagnant qi (life-force energy).

A flame is used to remove the excess oxygen within the cup & the cup is quickly applied to the skin, creating a suction.

The cups can be applied to dry skin, over various acupressure points to move the qi, or they can be placed on conditions of kyo (empty, yin, cool, dull pain) to tonify & strengthen the qi; or jitsu conditions (full, elevated, tight surface level, heat, acute pain) conditions to sedate or disperse the excess qi build-up.

Cups can also be applied using oil, allowing them to slide across the skin, stimulating blood flow & qi to larger areas.

moxibustion

Moxibustion, is yet another traditional therapy used across many eastern cultures, using the gentle heat emitted from burning herbs above the skin, predominantly mugwort or wormwood, howver other herbs are also used.

The process has a deep, therapeutic effect on the physiology & energetics of the body.  The herb is known to have a stimulating & invigorating effect on the blood & fluids, encouraging the flow of blood & lymph to the site of application.

Moxa can be applied to acupoints, along the meridian channels, trigger points & sites of injury, pain or dysfunction & can be used to treat a variety of conditions such as:

  • poor circulation,
  • stagnant qi,
  • TCM conditions of cool, damp, stagnation & deficiency
  • chronic depletion or exhaustion (chronic fatigue)
  • blood stasis
  • injury & arthritic pain
  • menstrual cycle imbalances
  • pregnancy care & fertility issues
  • digestive problems
  • anxiety & depression & more
