Specialised bowen therapy

Bowen Therapy is a form of specialised bodywork initiating a deep, parasympathetic nervous system response in the body, which enables a relaxing re-set.

This rest, initiates the body’s innate healing wisdom to override & correct dysfunctional postural & stagnant holding patterns, by finding the balance & equilibrium it needs.  The gentle rolling moves, performed over muscles, tendons & ligaments, speak to the facial network whilst reducing the restriction in the fascia surrounding the musculature, nerves, organs & lymphatic system.  This softening of the network & consequent energy & blood-flow gives rise to a gentle detoxification & lymphatic drainage, this is why it is recommended to drink plenty of water following a treatment.

The strategic location of the performed moves, also happen to work over acupressure points in the meridian channels, encouraging the energetic free-flow of Qi, allowing enhanced energy & blood flow.

Consideration is taken when assessing the body’s patterns of imbalances & how they may affect the entire myofascial chain & appropriate moves & procedures are performed to enable the necesary release.

Bowen Therapy has been known to assist an array of conditions:

  • Anxiety & Stress
  • Structural imbalances
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Tennis elbow
  • Carpal tunnel
  • Lower back pain
  • Knee, leg, feet & pelvic restrictions
  • Digestive disorders

  • TMJ issues
  • Neck pain & restriction
  • Respiratory issues & more

applied myoskeletal therapy

Applied Myoskeletal is a complementary set of evaluation & correction tools, developed by Bowen & Massage Therapist John Garfield.  During his many years of studies in clinic, he observed gaps in his ability to help some of his clients heal from a variety of conditions, so continued his search & experimentation until he witnessed lasting results.  He has drawn knowledge & wisdom from a variety of fields & now shares his findings to existing practitioners, so that we can be more effective when treating our own clients.

Having also noticed similar gaps in my ability to help with certain conditions, I continue to further my learnings & update my skill-set to help in the most well-rounded way possible.

Aftercare

hydration

Following a treatment, it is best practice to stay hydrated & drink plenty of water.  This is to ensure your body has the best opportunity to flush any toxins out of your body from the gentle detoxification process initiated by the treatment. Another bonus for this, is it creates flow & ease for the body to heal & reset.

It is also good practice to refrain from consuming anything that further dehydrates you, such as caffeine or alcohol.

movement

Another good practice is to continue encouraging the flow of Qi with regular movement, such as gentle walking.  As an example, if you think of Bowen as a reset that takes several days, you do not want to encourage the position of your body to reset in seated position.
